In 2016, it’s becoming more and more common to find people working from home. And, besides a relaxing home office, these people need certain other things lying about the house too.

It’s a fun, rewarding career to lead, but it’s not as easy as you’d imagine. If the power goes out, you’re screwed, and if your internet fails… what are you going to do?! Probably despair, a lot.

So once your home office is set up, turn your attention to the rest of the house! From coffee to electricity, here’s how you should properly decorate and furnish your home if you work from it.

Portable wireless router

As we just mentioned, the internet can sometimes flunk out on you. If that happens, you’ll need a backup. Portable routers work by you buying a pre-loaded SIM card, and slotting it into the machine. The machine then converts that 3G SIM into a full wifi connection that you can use to work off.

Additionally, there are other benefits here too. If your wifi signal is bad in your office, you can work downstairs easily with your portable router. It’s better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it!

Espresso/coffee machine

It’s hard enough to stay productive at the best of times. But what about if you had a rough night’s sleep, or a difficult morning? You’ll need some sort of a pickup. A coffee machine can provide that, and then some. I can tell you for a fact that I’ve only been motivated to work on certain days after a nice strong mocha.

A site like Espresso Gusto could help you choose the right machine, if you’re struggling. They all do different things - some froth the milk and some help with the cleaning themselves. Not too shabby at all!

Backup generator

So, your internet is covered if it dies - but is your power? Possibly not. But it’s the most vital part of your everyday job. It powers your PC, your printer and your main wifi hub. Without power, you’d be helpless.

Backup generators can be stored outside and safely away in a container. Or, you can keep them inside if you have the room. Again, like the portable router, it’s better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it!

Second desk and chair downstairs

This one has saved my day many a time. If the weather is beautiful outdoors and your office feels a bit warm, having a pseudo-office downstairs really helps. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Just a basic desk, chair and monitor will do. Or, you can use a laptop.

Additionally, you may get better wifi signal downstairs. Perhaps it would be better to make downstairs your permanent office, and upstairs your temporary? Whatever the case, you can get a cheap chair and desk for under $100. It won’t cost much for the convenience!
