When I was a kid, Peter Pan collars were very in fashion! My mom used to sew white ones with lace for me and my sister and I really loved them. My love for these cute preppy style accessories never grew old and inspired me to create my first knitting pattern for a peter pan collar: Anastasia's collar knitting pattern, named after my friend who asked me to design it. A little while after that I designed another one and now I am very excited to show it off to you. Meet my Scalloped Edge Knit Collar

I think you would agree that there's something timeless about a delicate collar. You can wear it over a knit sweater or use it to elevate a white t-shirt. The scalloped edge collar combines the vintage charm of a peter pan collar with a modern closing of the eye. So, I'm thrilled to show off this design that’s very satisfying to make and can become a favorite accessory.

Scalloped Edge Knit Collar

I designed this collar using the Bella yarn by Symfonie Yarns. This yarn is a dream to work with. It's very soft, smooth, and available in a palette of elegant and eye-catching shades. This knitting yarn has just the right drape for accessories like this collar, making it feel light on the neck but structured enough to hold the shape of those pretty scallops. It's an extra fine merino worsted yarn and the size of the skein is 165m for 100g. Note that this pattern will work amazingly with a variety of hand-dyed yarns either solid colors of variegated ones.

The pattern itself looks intricate but it probably falls into the intermediate category. Apart from the scallops which take a few unusual stitches, the rest of the construction is stochinette stitch with decreases. It also features a garter stitch edge at the top to help it lay flat and avoid curling.

What You'll Need

While the full pattern will follow shortly, here’s a little preview of what you’ll need:

Yarn: 1 skein of Bella by Symfonie Yarns. I used the Bella Summer Romance VR4005

Needles:  4.5mm knitting needles (I used KnitPro circular ones)

Notions:

  • Measuring tape if you want to adjust the length. I used the amazing crocheted tape measure shown in the photo below. It's the cutest sunflower!
  • Stitch markers. I used these cute tassels one and I loved that they are snag-free!

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Block foam squares. You need to block the collar to make it lay flat but that's an easy job because of it's construction.

You can even change the garter stitch edge at the top with a tubular cast off if you prefer. Either way your Scalloped Edge Knit Collar will look amazing on you!

I have written the pattern and will update this post in a few weeks, I am just waiting to see if I can include a child size in it and it's taking a minute. I hope it will not dissapoint in the end! So stay tuned and keep knitting!
