Make two

1. In a mc sc8, sl st to first sc to form a circle. Don't close the circle all the way because we are going to be crocheting in the same mc going over the first round.

2. Make 14sc in the opening of the mc going over the first round of sc, sl st to the first sc. (We don't crochet on the previous sc we go over them.)

3. ch2, *(dc, p, dc) in the same st, repeat * 13 more times, sl st to the first ch2.

4. cut leaving a short tail, close the mc tight and secure both ends.

You can use a starch solution (1 tablespoon of starch in 3-4 tablespoons of water) to stiffen your gear wheels or leave them as they are.

Once they are dry, attach the earring hooks and ta-da your earrings are ready!

What makes the Gear Wheel Earrings so fun to crochet is how the structure unfolds – starting from the center and working outward, the design mimics the teeth of a gear while still retaining that soft, textile charm only crochet can offer.

I designed these with my new favorite yarn from Hobbii, called Minium. Minium is a lightweight acrylic yarn with lovely colors and it's excellent for micro crocheting jewelry!

Depending on your yarn choice and color palette, you can go from steampunk chic to boho minimalist in just a few stitches. Metallic threads give them an edgy shimmer, while pastel cottons create a soft, romantic vibe. They’re incredibly versatile, and the pattern invites you to experiment.

Even better, they’re a fantastic stash-buster. That tiny leftover ball of yarn or thread you didn’t know what to do with? This is it. Combine that with a couple of earring hooks and a sense of adventure, and you’ve got your next favorite pair of earrings ready to go.
