Being barefoot is always the best for your feet, especially indoors. But when the weather gets cold, you need to wear some slippers! Ever since reading a kids book called Fig and Fog about two cat slippers that went into so much trouble and mischief, my daughter kept asking me for such slippers. So, when I found this fluffy yarn from Flying Tiger I instantly knew what to make! Cat fluffly slippers! Here's my fluffy kids slippers knitting pattern for you to make your own!

She's never home without them and I am sure that's not possible to be more proud of a design since it has the seal of her approval!

These slippers are knitted flat as a T shape and then they are sewn together. They are not shaped as a sock, they are more buggy like that and more square in the toes. If you think they are too loose you can use the elastic in the area of the angle and keep them in place. Also, even though my daughter at the time of the photoshoot (fancy way of describing me begging her to stand still so I can photograph them) refused to wear socks, these slippers are supposed to be worn with socks. Their fabric is not tightly knitted and your kids' toes may make an appearance through it!

Pattern

For 22-26 shoe size

Cast on 24 stitches

Make 15 rows of garter stitch (knit all stitches)

At row 16, cast off 7 stitches, knit 10 stitches, cast off the last 7 stitches. Cut and secure the yarn.

You will now use both yarns at the same time held together (Y1 and Y2). Knit the centered 10 stitches for the next 24 rows in garter stitch. This will become the sole of the slipper.

After the 24 rows, cut the second yarn (Y2) and continue knitting with the fluffy yarn for another 24 rows.

Pattern notes

- The pattern for the larger shoe sizes has not been tested and it's only approximate. It's easy to measure the size of the kid's feet and add stitches if needed.

- These socks are essentially a tube that's closed in one end. You could knit it as such and be done with it. The reason I chose to knit it flat and in the above manner, was to add the second yarn for the slipper's sole. You can totally go the other way and knit it as a tube or even as a rectange and form the tube with sewing.

- After being worn for a couple of times, the slippers will probably expand a bit. The elastic seems like the logical solution. Just make sure not to make it too tight.

-You can wear them straight or double rimmed at the angle.

- Yes, they wiill pick up everything that's on your floor! They can be easily washed in the washing machine (use a sensitive bag for the safety eyes and nose).

Assembly

Take a look at the diagrams below to help you out.

drawing 1

Fold the side AA and the side BB towards the line C. Sew the two sides together.

drawing 2

Fold the long part of the T by bringing together sides DD and EE and sew them together. Side EE is the side that formed after sewing the previous step.

drawing 3

Lastly, sew along the sides F.

Place the safety eyes and nose near the toe side of your slippers making sure to put them on the side of the slipper where you knitted with only the fluffy yarn (Y1). With the black sewing thread, make some whiskers. You need to reduce the safety eyes and nose backs. To do so, use a lighter and once they are "melted" press them on a flat surface. You can also, sew a piece of felt on that area.

Your cute fluffy kids slippers are ready!

They are warm, soft and cuddling! On our laminated floor, they are a bit slippery but so are her socks and she's used to it. If you think they need to be less, you can add a few drops of hot glue on the sole.

The pattern is really easy for a beginner! You only need to know how to cast on, knit and cast off! That simple!

I want to make her another pair so she wont be without when these are in the washer. I hope you'll make your own flully kids slippers! If you do tag me on instagram @akamatra so I can see them!
